HOWDY

Saturday, November 4, 2017 8:00pm-2:00pm CST

Dear All:

I think that déjà vu is a proper way to begin this missive. You see, I have not been out of my hotel all day. We were supposed to work with the Mambanda Church of Christ but we were informed that they had 2 prospects but they taught and baptized both of them last week. That, of course, is great news. In some ways; this was good timing as Jean Claude was able to go to his village and visit with his family regarding the death of his brother. As the first-born son, there is a great deal of responsibility on the shoulders of Jean Claude because of the Cameroonian culture. I did not, however, twiddle my thumbs today. This will be somewhat like my Howdy yesterday in that it will not be a normal one. BTW: I don’t need any smart aleck telling me that none of my Howdys are normal!

I got up earlier than usual and got to work. I was able to finish my PPT. Now; that is not completely true because it is the “shell” and my highly competent daughter-in-law (that would be Jennifer) will make it purty once I get back. I was able to write my first draft of the trip report. Obviously, since the trip is not over there is more to be added but I was able to get a lot of it done. I fine-tuned my sermon for tomorrow and wrote a new sermon for the States with the exception of the Introduction. I was also able to get more work done on my Bible class for November 15 and I was able to receive 2 reports from preachers and respond to them. I ate in the hotel restaurant so I did not waste much time today. I am a bit down because I did not get to ride a machine but I will rectify that in the morning. I am preaching at Jean Claude’s congregation and I know how to flag down a machine and direct him to the hall. At 9am they are having a “praise service” which is basically an hour of singing. I am looking forward to that.

No new pictures today but I think these will be new to you. On the left is Jean Claude, Pierre and Simon. Pierre was baptized in Sangmelima. On the right is the baptistery in Yaounde; it is possible I posted this last week but I cannot remember. You will notice the dividing line in the middle. Originally, they had built this monstrous baptistery but saw that it was too big so they “walled” it off to save water. David is the one being baptized.

I was able to Skype with Bapp and her three boys: Will, Cy and KB. It was good seeing them. I just finished Skyping with Linda and she is better. Slept well last night but is still not 100%. Thank you for your prayers and any help you have given her. I am fine and looking forward to tomorrow. Thank you for your continued prayers for Jean Claude and myself.

In Christ,
Jim Corner
