This has been a GREAT day in many ways. First of all, I just received a phone call from Jean Claude regarding Jim Ella. She had surgery this afternoon and it went well. He said that by Thursday they will know everything but the “early returns” are positive. He will be back in Douala tonight and see me tomorrow. The extra day I spent is proving to be valuable in more than one way. Instead of giving you a detailed account of what I did in order, I will simply tell you what I have been able to do today. 1) I was able to put together my PowerPoint Presentation that I will make at the Copperas Cove Church of Christ on November 22. This congregation has been one of my sponsors for nearly 20 years and I make a report to them each November. 2) I was able to work on my Wednesday night class. The lesson I am working on will cover 3 weeks and I made a great deal of headway. 3) I was able to work on a report from Jean Claude’s wife regarding the village work in Kake and Kombe. I spent all of the morning and into the afternoon with my computer and Bible software. 4) I was able to finish my packing for the most part. I will not leave the hotel until 6 tomorrow night so any last minute things that need to get done will be no problem. I was able to go to my favorite restaurant and order a hamburger and small pizza to go and the meal was delicious. It is only now that I have a chance to finally relax.
Amongst all of this joy is the sad picture below. Charlie Brown could have driven down this street. The lack of traffic literally brought tears to my eyes. This was one time when it hurt me deeply to have a driver that liked to dodge traffic. I am thankful that the picture below is not an accurate depiction of the streets of Douala. I will get cheered up again in a few hours when I get to see the most beautiful woman in the world! Oh, it is so nice to have Jean Claude around for translation purposes. Whether at the restaurant or the market or hotel; few speak English. I am doing well and thank you for all of your prayers.
