I can’t remember precisely (actually I can’t remember at all) what I said about adding another day but I am sure glad I did. It is allowing me to get a lot of stuff accomplished without being in a hurry-scurry mode. Day started at 7:30 as that is when I woke up. I am really amazed at how nice this hotel is. If you had never been out of the States that might cause you to question my sanity but everything is working well. This morning I was able to work some more on my Wednesday night Bible class that I resume on the 11th. I have about 6 more lessons to go. Tomorrow I plan to work some on my PowerPoint part of the class. Tomorrow I also plan to work on the PowerPoint of this trip. Jean Claude came and we walked down to the modem place to make sure I had enough credit to get me through the trip. I have had time to write a rough draft of my trip report and will refine it in the next couple of days. Anyone who knows me understands that the words Jim Corner and refine go hand in hand. In fact, Teresa Blaisdell is always telling me that she wishes Ricardo was refined like me! We then climbed machines and went to eat. Jean Claude first of all tried to get a taxi which causes me to question his sanity. At any rate, we were able to get two machines although my guy was much better as I arrived 5 minutes before Jean Claude. I have been fortunate in getting only the best drivers. Oh, I got ahead of myself; before going to lunch Martin came by to pick me and take me to the Wood Market to buy a few souvenirs. I had not planned on going to the Market but I spoke to the Boss last night and that changed everything. I understand that the Scriptures say that the man is the head of the house; I just wish my beautiful, darling wife would read the text! I must confess that after talking to a multitude of Christian husbands that this problem is widespread. I knew exactly what to get so I was not at the market long. You bargain over everything but I have this down to a science so I was in and out with no hassle. After lunch we went to buy postcards. I send a postcard to each of my grandkids on every trip. I also have a few others that I send to. I buy them for the next trip so that I can have them addressed and I write them on the way over. The cost of a card is 350 which is 65 cents. The guy tried to charge me 800 so I walked away but once he knew that I knew the price, he relented. We then went to visit a dear brother from Jean Claude’s congregation named Robert. Jean Claude and I rode the same machine and I was on the back where the seat ends and some metal begins. I am thankful we were not riding for a long time. I have known Robert for nearly 2 decades. Paul will write in II Corinthians 4:16 about our outward body decaying. Your age and level of health will impact how you view that text. It made me truly sad to see my dear brother as he has had a stroke and has no use of his left hand. He can walk with a crutch but it is very slow and painstaking. The road beside the church hall is above the hall so when he comes to worship two men carry him down and then back up after the service is over. One time he had been put on a machine and he fell off so now a brother rides with him to hold him. I praise God every day for the great health He has given me and thank brethren such as you who have implored the Lord to take care of me. After I got back I was able to work on two reports of the village preachers we support. Our goal is to build up the children in the villages to be strong Christians so that they will make an impact when they leave the village. We, of course, care about the “big” people but it is exceedingly hard to grow a village church. No different than a rural church in the States.
1. Even though I have known Martin (the machine guy) for many years; it seems as if I have bonded with him on this trip. He is such a delightful brother but only has the equivalent of a 1st or 2nd grade education. He can neither read nor write so Mary (Jean Claude’s wife) is going to teach him. I am going to buy him a Bible so that it can be one of the texts he uses to learn how to read.
2. As many of you know, I am very health conscious and I have a snack that is full of wonderful things but short on calories. This snack has all kinds of vitamins, minerals, niacin, riboflavin and even more! You have to concoct it but it is simple: take 4 Double Stuff Oreos – remove the lid of each one and eat the cookie without the icing. Then take a knife and take off the frosting from two of the cookies and place it on the third. Then place the fourth on top and you will have about an inch worth of icing. This is one of those strange happenings that on the surface makes no sense but in reality works. It is like going to McDonald’s and ordering a Double Quarter Pounder w/ Cheese, a large fry and a Diet Coke. The Diet Coke has a magical way of removing the calories. In the same way, the extra icing actually lowers the calorie count. AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
3. I have been packing and repacking; organizing and reorganizing for the last 2 hours. I absolutely love being in Cameroon but I will be happy to be in my house with everything where it should be; especially Linda!
Please remember to keep Jim Ella in your prayers. Jean Claude and Mary travel early in the morning to take her to the hospital. He hopes to be back by 5 tomorrow afternoon. I plan to Skype Grandma and Charlie Brown in a couple of hours. I continue to feel great and appreciate all of your prayers. No pictures today so I thought I would give you a recent photo of me and my lovely bride.
