Another great day but all days are great in Cameroon! The attendance is considerably lower than last year on this date. We had 35 men today compared to 48 last year. The women were only slightly down with 37 compared to 39 last year. The afternoon class had the biggest drop with 55 versus 85 in 2012. There is a sense in which you like big numbers. The reality, however, is what is accomplished by those who come. I am placing a larger than usual emphasis on the need of our brethren to return and share this material. Going back to the beginning of the day; slept well last night and got up at 6:30. We left for the LeWat Hotel at about 7:50 and arrived with no problems. There were already a couple of sisters there so Terry and I climbed machines and went to the church hall. Martin happened to be out in front of the hotel so Terry rode with him. Can’t remember if I told you (I may have written this above) but Terry is convinced that Martin is the most, how do I say, ambitious driver around. He said that a couple of times Martin went places that didn’t exist! Personally, I love to ride with an ultra-aggressive driver. I have some more meetings tomorrow but on Thursday I plan to take my IPhone and video on the back of the machine. I understand that Rob Foster, one of the teens going with me in June, is a technological whiz. At any rate, that is what he says. His dad said the same but he is not the most trustworthy guy in the world. No need for this to get back to his dad! Got to the hall at 8:15 so I went ahead and had a meeting with the preacher from Dschang (Pronounced chong). Was very fruitful. Class started at 9 and at the first break I climbed a machine and went to the hotel were the sisters are meeting as Louise wanted me to take some pictures. After I did my thing, I asked myself: “self, what would my comrades (that would be Terry and Louise) want me to do” and I concluded that they would want me to go into the hotel bar and get an ice cold Coke with a glass of ice. So, I did what I knew they would want me to do. Now, I never told them and there is no reason for any of you to contact them! At lunch I did not go back to the hotel (nor did Terry) as I had some meetings and I wanted him to be in on a couple of them. We are looking at a problem in one of the congregations regarding the preacher’s relationship with the church and praying that it can be resolved. Daniel went to LeWat and picked Louise and carried her to the hotel so she could have a short rest. She came back early as I had a meeting with her and the 4 sisters that are working to train village sisters. That is a picture of them below. Can you pick out Louise? The picture on the right is that of Paul and Rose Ename. He is the preacher in Bertoua and is the brother of Jean Claude. My class went well. The electricity was on the entire time so the heat was not too bad. Got a car back to the hotel and had supper with my comrades. Now, the other day I told you that I would not give recipes every day but this one today is one of my all-time best. Get your little computer out (or whatever you write or type on) because you will want to take this recipe down. The ingredients are; Salisbury Steak and Mashed Potatoes (Hormel Brand), Spam (single slice package), Pringles (preferably Paprika), one small can of corn and any kind of cheese. Take the Salisbury Steak, Mashed Potatoes, Spam and Corn and mix thoroughly. Then crush up 9 Pringles as a garnish and put slices of cheese over it. Do not, I repeat DO NOT heat as it removes most of the nutrients and minerals, etc. You will absolutely love this dish! There is a good reason why person after person continues to ask me for recipes. I even have some fine restaurants that serve my stuff! After supper Louise and I discussed what she and the girls did this afternoon during my class. They like to schedule their class during mine so they don’t have to listen to me. It is much like our preacher’s wife; she tries to get nursery duty as often as possible. I won’t give you her name because I do not want to embarrass her. Her initials are TB (which could stand for Terribly Broad) as she is somewhat tubby. She is a real goober and I am not worried about anyone telling her I said that because her vocabulary is relegated to one syllable words! Some other miscellaneous stuff:
1. I know that all of us from time to time have come upon an automobile accident. Perhaps the traffic was backed up a mile or more. The next time you see a loooooooooooooong line of cars do the following: if possible jump the median and start going against the traffic in the oncoming lane. If you can’t do that take the earliest exit and then get over and start riding against the traffic. You know those DO NOT ENTER signs; they are a bunch of baloney. I know from first hand evidence in Cameroon that going against the traffic is a very efficient way of making good time. The more I ride machines and watch taxis the more I am convinced that only old people (like Terry) or crazy people (like Terry) or ‘nut jobs’ (like Terry) ride in taxis. Don’t worry: Chris will agree with everything I say. Many years we were over at their house in a Tuesday night Bible study; Terry was at Dallas Christian doing something and Chris remarked: “Terry really is more intelligent than he appears!”
2. I didn’t wear a hat today and when we got to the church hall Terry remarked about my hair. I went and looked in the mirror and I thought I was TB – only a smaller version!
3. Many of the brethren are sleeping in the church hall. We buy mattresses for them but they are sleeping in a hot hall with no conveniences and content because of the fellowship they are sharing and the learning that is taking place.
4. One of the brothers who read this morning would start out by quoting the passage, that is, “James 2 verse 13 reads” and he would read it. When he was finished he said: ‘end of quote’.
I have been busy since I got back and still have about 45 minutes before I can get to sleep. I have already Skyped Linda (have I told you it is really neat)? Charlie Brown likes it as much as Linda as he enjoys making faces at me. I am going to try and Skype Bapp in a few minutes and see her boys. I will not have time for any of my DVDs tonight. As stated yesterday; my fear in June is that Rob and Tucker will try to take all of my DVDs and I won’t be able to see them. I know that they are big fans of The Big Valley and I may bring PeeWee’s Big Adventure for their enjoyment. We are all doing well and thank you for each prayer.
