Had a great Lord’s Day. The hotel has an outside place where bands can come and play and you can have a party. Well, they had one last night that lasted from 10pm till 5am this morning! They were not far from Richard and Lori’s room but they had brought ear plugs and wore them and they muffled the sound. I am a bit farther away but they woke me up 2 or 3 times during the night but I was able to get right back to sleep. They woke me at 4:30 and I could not get back to sleep until after they shut down at 5. Electricity stayed on all night and when I was asleep it was good! Jean Claude and I hopped machines this morning as the ride is only 5 or so minutes. Got there at 8:55 as Bible class begins at 9. We promptly started singing at 9:20 and Bible class began at 9:35! I did not get the attendance but it was over 200 as the place was packed. Kumbatown is the largest congregation in the country. I did not teach Sunday school but did preach. Singing was fantastic and the entire service was very encouraging. Afterwards Jean Claude remained to do a few things so I got a machine back to the hotel. Last night when I went to bed I discovered that there was no bottom sheet to lay on so I just laid on the bare mattress which was fine. Today when they made up the bed they added a sheet. Richard and Lori got back around 1:15. They had a great service at Kake II. I was able to get a good deal of work done this afternoon. We had lupper (lunch and supper) at 4. It is good having Lori here because she does not eat a lot so the 3 of us get some extra food. Me and her are the two slim ones of the group but that is because my Metabolism is that of a teen.
A few interesting things:
1. Last night while we were having supper the issue of being fat came up. We told Jean Claude that you NEVER tell a woman she is fat which surprised him. He said that in Africa if you call a woman fat she takes it as a compliment. Also, after you have been married for 3 or 4 years if your wife is not fat the men will say you are not taking good care of her. You do need to understand that generally speaking, their definition of fat and ours is somewhat different.
2. When Richard and Lori came back she came down to my room to tell me about Kake II. I did not know but she had locked Richard in their room. You see, if the door is locked no one from either side can enter or exit. Now, he had told her to lock him in but Jean Claude thought that was so funny. He said to Richard: ‘do all American women lock their husbands’?
3. At supper tonight Jean Claude was talking about his father and how tough he was. When you went to church, for example, his father had to be the last one to enter the hall and if a child went in first, they would get whacked. Also, his father prayed such long closing prayers that some brethren would actually walk out while he was praying!
4. I did something tonight for only the second time in my entire life: I turned off my A/C. My bones were starting to freeze and I could barely move.
I did not take my camera to church today so the picture below will have to do. From left to right is Joes Luis, KB (our grandson) and Dakota (a kid Linda used to babysit). Thanks for your continued prayers. We are looking forward to starting the seminar in the morning.
